Epson ET-2710 EcoTank Multifunction Printer Review

Whether you’re looking to upgrade your old home printer, or are simply looking into getting set up with home printing, the different types available today can make it difficult to choose. From inkjet, laser and all-in-one printers, to useful features such as mobile printing via WiFi, it’s important to find the right model to suit your needs. We asked one of our sales advisers to trial and share his experience of the Epson ET-2710 EcoTank, one of our most popular and cost effective models.

“The ET-2710 EcoTank is Epson’s entry level multifunction printer with refillable ink tanks designed for busy households, with running costs far below that of a conventional cartridge ink jet printer.

On average a typical ink cartridge contains about 4ml of ink at a cost of around £12, compare that to the Ecotank bottles which have a whopping 65ml for the same cost! It is worth noting that the black Ecotank refill contains 120ml and costs just a few pounds more.

A full set of inks are supplied with the printer which, depending on usage, Epson estimate could last up to two years!

Setup is very easy, the leak proof bottles are keyed which it makes it virtually impossible to fill the wrong tank. Simply remove the lid, invert the bottle and place it over the relevant tank. It takes about 50 seconds to fill each tank. Please note that there will be a little bit of ink left in each bottle, you will be prompted to top up the tanks after the system primes which takes around 10 minutes.

Wi-Fi connection to either a network router or mobile device is a doddle too. A software CD for PC or Mac is supplied, or you can simply download the Epson iPrint app to your Apple or Android device enabling you to begin printing within minutes.

Paper handling is 100 sheet capacity to the rear of the printer, max paper size A4. You can expect to get up to 4500 black and 7500 colour prints from each ink set.

The ET-2710 has a 1200x2400dp A4 scanner/copier which can output just over 7ppm mono and about 3.8ppm in full colour. Print speeds are around 10ppm mono and 5ppm full colour. It may not be the fastest printer out there but as it’s designed for domestic use that shouldn’t be a concern for most users.

If you are fed up shelling out for expensive ink cartridges that always run out just when you need to print that vital piece of school homework or important document, then the Epson ET-2710 EcoTank is definitely something to consider.”
