Gocycle GX Review

Cycling is economical, a great way to exercise, and much cheaper than owning a car. But unless you’re in good shape and ready to tackle every hill that comes your way, it may not necessarily be your preferred method of transportation. Enter the electric bicycle (or eBike). A glorious contraption that lets you get around without having to worry about arriving at your destination a sweaty mess.

With so many different styles and models to choose from, we asked a member of our sales team to trial and share his experience of the new fast-folding eBike: the Gocyle GX.

“Sleek, contemporary, innovative and a head turning aesthetic were just a few of the images and contemplations that ran through my mind when first seeing the Gocycle GX.

The bike came assembled and ready to hit the road straight away. Within very little time at all I was able to fold and store it safely with ease.

 The GocycleConnect app is required for initial set up but it is both simple to set up and easy to use. The app allows you to configure the bike to suit your own riding style, as well as report on things such as speed, calories burned and much more. The Gocycle is a power assisted eBike meaning you can put as much physical exertion into riding it as you want. The app allows you to edit the level of motor assistance and rider input effort to suit your needs. 

The bike weighs just under 18kg making it easy to cycle even if you happen to run out of charge, which is a massive bonus as many eBikes can be considerably heavier. I’ve found I can typically ride the Gocycle for around 40 to 50 miles on a full charge. Charging the bike couldn’t be easier; one end of the charger goes into the bike, and the other end goes into a standard 3 pin plug socket.

Riding the Gocycle gave me the freedom to challenge any hills, however steep the gradient, through its advanced system of quick shift gear change technology and different mode selections. Freedom to explore Jersey’s country lanes and wonderful historical treasures has been made simple and easy with the added huge bonus of enhanced fitness levels that go hand in hand with cycling.

Like all eBikes, the range and scope of different terrains can pose some problems for the Gocycle. Off-roading is advised against as the front suspension is not as robust as specialist off-roading bikes. Gocycle advise against using the bike in inclement weather for long periods of time, as it has been designed more so for fair weather usage.

I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this eBike to any age group but feel it would be particularly great for those who appreciate a comfortable easy paced commute or leisurely cycle through and along the beautiful countryside lanes and cycle tracks that Jersey has to offer.

While the price may seem prohibitive to some at over £2000, the Gocycle offers great technology and design. Plus, how do we equate price if health and wellbeing are so greatly enhanced? It is difficult to put a price on life essentials such as these.
