KVL8300S Kenwood Chef Titanium XL Review
“Having had a Kenwood mixer for over 30 years since I was first married I was so excited to upgrade to this model, Kenwood is the only brand for me. From experience I know just how reliable and sturdy their machines are, so I am expecting this one to take me well into my retirement!
The unit is fairly heavy as it has a metal body, but an upside of this is that when you’re using it on full speed it won’t dance around your worktop like some of the more lightweight models may do.
The 6.7 litre stainless steel bowl fits into the stand effortlessly, with two conveniently placed handles on either side.
Included in the box you’ll find a k-beater, whisk and dough hook all made from stainless steel, as well as a spatula, splash guard and cookbook. The steel attachments all fit onto the machine really easily and can go into the dishwasher.
A great feature I found was the in-built light which I initially thought was just a bit of a gimmick and something I wouldn’t really use. However, because of the sheer size of the bowl it can be difficult to see how your mixture is coming along and that’s where the light plays a vital role. Plus, if you’re using different coloured icing you can clearly see how the colours are looking.
Another nice couple of features are the illuminated control dial and the head lift lever on the side which allows you to slowly open up the top with one touch providing easy access to the bowl.
At Christmas I’ll no longer have to mess around making small amounts of mixture at a time as this machine will hold enough to make a 10lb (4.55kg) Christmas cake. The splash guard fits nicely onto the bowl and has a large chute so you don’t have to keep taking it off. There is also a lid over the chute to prevent clouds of dry or floury ingredients coming out over the worktop. You can separately buy a folding tool attachment for use with the folding switch so when making things like meringue it will slowly fold the egg whites.
The brushed steel finish prevents fingerprints from building up on the sides of the machine, is easy to keep clean and looks really smart.
When you register the machine with Kenwood via their website you will activate an impressive 10-year guarantee on the motor. Sometimes after registering Kenwood give you the option to claim a free recipe book, but there are also plenty of recipe ideas on the Kenwood website to help get you going with your new machine. There is also an app called Kenwood World (available for both iOS and Android) loaded with lots of delicious recipes which can be really handy to have on your phone when you go food shopping.
The recipe I followed whilst compiling this review was the ‘Farmhouse Fruitcake Slices’ from the Kenwood website.
The machine has a powerful 1700W motor which works particularly well if you opt for additional attachments such as the food processor or blender which fit onto an outlet on the top of the unit. It has planetary mix action and 6 speeds as well as a pulse and a fold setting. There are over 20 different attachments you can purchase separately including a meat grinder, pasta roller, citrus press, spiralizer and many more. Having such a versatile machine with many varying attachments is great for compact kitchens, as it eliminates the need for several different machines!”
